The Center for Doctoral Studies at King's College London is offering fully-funded scholarships to support international students to undertake full-time doctoral research degrees at the following academic colleges.

Conditions for PhD Scholarships at King's College London

  • Be responsible for tuition fees at the higher international/external rates.
  • Apply for a full-time MPhil/PhD program at King's College London within a college
  • Plan to start an MPhil/PhD at King's in June.
  • Apply to King's College London for the scholarship
  • Receive an offer of admission to an eligible Masters/PhD degree program by January 31st. 
  •                                                              

Please note:

  • Students who have already started a PhD at King's are not eligible.
  • Distance learning programs are not eligible.
  • Professional doctoral degrees (such as MD (Res) and DClinPsy) are not eligible.
  • Joint doctoral programs are not eligible.
  • These scholarships cannot start before or after June.

Steps to apply:

  1. Locate a King's moderator by searching the Research Portal King's and King's website - use keywords relevant to your proposed search. *
  2. Submit an application for your chosen MPhil/PhD program through the King's Online Admissions Application System - The apply King's no later than 1 October. Be sure to select June as your planned start date.
  3. By October 1, at the latest, in the funding section of your online admission application form:-
    • Make sure the box in item 5 (Code or Name of Scheme Scholarship ) is and enter the code: checked 2122-INTCDS
    • Complete the PGR International Scholarship Form “ ” and separate attach it to the “Funding” section of your application in the King’s Apply, using the “Upload file” option at the bottom of the page; Under the Document Category drop-down list, select Sponsorship Document or Other.
  4. Submit all relevant supporting documents and fulfill all admission requirements for your chosen PhD degree program to secure an offer of admission.

please note:  

  • If you have already submitted an application via King's Apply for a Master's/PhD degree that meets the eligibility criteria, you do not have to re-apply, but please make sure you update your start date to June and follow steps 3 and 4.
  • If you submitted your admission application before including the funding code or scholarship form, simply log back into the King's application to update the Funding section of your application. If you encounter any issues with this, please contact the admissions office via the message section of your application for assistance.
  • Students who fail to enter the funding code and upload the completed scholarship form, just as described in Step 3, will not be picked up when we extract the details from the King's Apply, so it is essential to follow the instructions correctly!

The selection process for PhD scholarships at King's College London

The information and documents submitted via the online admission application will be used to determine the eligibility of the applicant as well as to consider the strength of the application and suitability for the scholarship programme.

Eligible applicants who have correctly applied for the scholarship by 1 October will be considered by the faculty.

Unqualified candidates will not be reviewed, and their admission application may be returned as unsuccessful by the King's Apply for those who do not already have an offer of admission. 

                                                                              

By January 31 (23:59 GMT), colleges must select and rank a limited number of the best candidates for further study by a central committee. Those shortlisted must have received an offer of admission by this stage.

Selection will be made on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Research proposal
  • statement of justification
